The biennial Columbia River Estuary Conference will be held May 13, 2025

This year's theme is:
Echoes of the Estuary: Reflections for a Resilient Future

The Columbia River Estuary Conference brings together restoration practitioners, scientists, researchers, and others interested in the ecosystems and restoration of the lower Columbia River, its estuary, plume, and nearshore ocean.

This year, the conference will be a single, all-day event with technical presentations, a poster session, and an evening social.

Cape Disappointment State Park

Cape Disappointment State Park (formerly Fort Canby State Park) is a 1,882-acre camping park on the Long Beach Peninsula, fronted by the Pacific Ocean. The park offers 27 miles of ocean beach, two lighthouses, an interpretive center and hiking trails. Visitors enjoy beachcombing and exploring the area's rich natural and cultural history. The nearby coastal towns of Ilwaco and Long Beach feature special events and festivals spring through fall.

Reed Island State Park (WA)

Camping is no longer allowed on Reed Island, but two picnic sites are available to boaters for daytime use only. No potable water, restrooms, or garbage on the island. Some tidal influence (2ft or less), with most dramatic effect on north eastern portion of the island exposing large sand bar at low tides.

Carl Cruz

Carl joined the Estuary Partnership in March 2025 as a full time VetsWork Intern through January 2026. VetsWork is a career development internship program for military veterans interested in natural resources management, public lands, and the environmental sector. Carl is a seven-year veteran of the U.S. Air Force. Carl holds a Bachelor of Science in Fish, Wildlife, and Conservation Biology from Colorado State University. Carl completed Fluvial Geomorphology and Fisheries Technician internships at CSU and worked as a Biological Science Assistant with the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife
