A 42.4 acre man-made island a few minutes paddle from downtown St. Helens, just downstream of the Multnomah Channel and Columbia River confluence. The island is a mix of cottonwood forest and grassy areas. The City of St. Helens recently renovated the island and operates a campground, open from March through October. Reservations are required and can be made at the Sand Island Campground website . The camp host can also accept day-of walk up or phone reservations, if spots are available.
